Damon Braces

A great smile is worth investing in and can restore your confidence and self esteem. Here at Novocare Dental we’ve seen a large increase in the number of patients asking for orthodontic braces which are more discreet and comfortable to wear, which is why we offer Damon Braces.

So what are Damon Braces?

Damon braces are fixed braces which consist of small ceramic brackets with a natural coloured wire running through them. How they differ from other braces is in their unique slide mechanism which minimises the friction and pressure associated with traditional braces that depend on arch wires and metal or elastic bands to move the teeth. Known as self-litigating, Damon braces use a method which allows the arch wire to move freely to ease the teeth gently into their correct position, which ultimately means less pain and discomfort. These types of braces are designed to be discreet and are available with clear brackets so that patients feel less self conscious when wearing braces.

How Damon Braces different from other braces

These type of braces require less adjustments and consequently fewer visits to the dental clinic. The low force, low friction system of Damon braces means that the braces work faster and more efficiently without rubbing against your teeth or gums which can cause soreness. Typically treatment time with a Damon brace can be 4-6 months less than with traditional braces. Other advantages include:

  • Easy clean capabilities
  • Attractive appearance
  • More comfortable to wear

How does the procedure work?

An appointment will be arranged for you with [insert doctor name here] who will explain the procedure and the workings of the brace. Benefits and any risks, plus the cost will also be discussed. Following a full dental examination an impression will be taken where you are asked to bite into a mould, so that your Damon brace can be custom made. Once it has been made you’ll be asked to come back to have it fitted. Using dental glue, your brace will be fitted to your teeth, starting with the brackets first, followed by the insertion of the arch wire through the slide mechanism. You can expect the procedure to last around an hour.

What problems can Damon Braces treat?

This particular type of brace can be used to correct a number of orthodontic problems including:

  • Overcrowding
  • Overbite/underbite
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gaps in the teeth
  • Malocclusions
