Dental Emergencies

There’s nothing worse than severe tooth pain. For this reason here at Dr. Sonny Oke we provide emergency dental care for all our patients. If you feel that you need an emergency appointment during normal opening hours then please call the dental clinic reception on 01923 817942 to seek advice and to make an appointment.

What about when my emergency is out of hours?

Sometimes an emergency can occur out of hours or at the weekend when the dental clinic is closed, but provided you are a registered patient we can usually arrange an out of hours appointment for you. Please call the dental clinic and listen carefully to the pre-recorded message.

What constitutes a dental emergency?

You may need urgent dental treatment if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Facial swelling or toothache which could suggest a gum or tooth infection
  • Severe facial pain or toothache which can’t be relieved by over the counter pain killers
  • A permanent tooth has been knocked out
  • Trauma of the mouth, teeth or face following a recent injury or accident
  • Uncontrollable bleeding following a tooth extraction
  • Serious swelling of your face and mouth which is getting worse

Preparing yourself for dental emergencies

Provided you regularly visit the dentist, then emergencies are usually few and far between, but it certainly makes sense to be prepared for such an eventuality. It helps to keep a dental first aid kit at home which should contain a few essentials before you can get to your dentist. Painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen are an obvious choice but other things such as an antiseptic mouthwash and cotton wool pads to stem any bleeding should be included.

If you feel that you have an emergency dental problem then please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’ll see to it that you’re dealt with as quickly and efficiently as possible.
