CEREC Crowns

CEREC crowns offer the perfect solution to restoring chipped or damaged teeth to give you back that winning smile. Typically a crown would require 2 or 3 visits to the dentist but the good news is that here at [insert name of dental clinic] you can be in and out of the clinic in just one single visit, complete with your new crown.

So what exactly is CEREC?

CEREC is an innovative new system of designing, fabricating and fitting a new crown, inlay, or veneer in a procedure which takes little more than an hour as opposed to what would usually take a minimum of two weeks.

How does the procedure work?

The dentist starts by preparing your tooth by removing any decaying or weakened tooth tissue, in the same way that he would for most other restorative procedures. Then at this point, instead of taking an impression with dental “putty” he will instead use a non-toxic tasteless powder to coat your tooth. The next step involves using a special camera to take a picture of the prepared tooth which is converted by the CEREC software into a 3-dimensional model on the computer screen. Utilising this as a guide the dentist uses his expertise to design your new restoration.

Once the dentist is satisfied with the design of the tooth he sends the restoration design data to a milling machine on-site which fabricates the new tooth using a high quality ceramic block that has been colour matched to your other teeth. Depending on the complexity of the tooth, the milling process can take anywhere between 6 to 30 minutes. Once your crown has been milled the dentist will try it on in your mouth and make any necessary adjustments to the fit and bite, before polishing or glazing it in a furnace. Your new restoration is then ready to be bonded into place on to your prepared tooth.

The advantages of CEREC crowns

Everything is done in just one visit. So instead of making 2 or 3 visits, all you need do is take one day out of your busy schedule.

Since the entire procedure can be carried out within an hour, you will only need one set of local anaesthetic injections.

Our dentist is in total control of the finished appearance of your new crown, since he will be the one designing and fabricating it, and will be able to monitor its look and fit. Compare this to a crown made in a laboratory where the dental technician hasn’t ever seen you!

There’s no need to wear a temporary restoration as you would if your crown were made in a dental laboratory. These have been known to fall off before the next visit or cause problems, and with CEREC this stage is totally omitted.

Since this type of restoration involves just one visit to the clinic and there are no laboratory fees to be built into the price, CEREC crowns are very cost-effective and there is often little difference in price compared to the standard lab made crowns. If you’re interested in knowing more about CEREC why not give the clinic a ring on 01923 817942. Our friendly staff will be happy to take your call.
